This
unit was developed with the early learner in mind. The
children in my 1997-98 kindergarten classroom nurtured
and expanded the projects. We worked and learned together
in a wet, wild, and wonderful experience that can happen
only when you carefully craft the experiences for children
and then follow their lead.
The
activities are aimed to help young children learn more
about alternative forms of energy. In addition, I wanted
to nurture a curiosity that would encourage them to further
explore and develop ideas, form and reject hypotheses,
and apply what they have learned about energy to their
every day lives. All of this and more happened.
Now,
with the help of EWEB, our local water and electricity
provider, this kit is being used in other schools in
Eugene. I hope you and your students enjoy the activities
in this unit as much as we did.
