| Virtual Eugene, begun in 1996, was a cooperative project between school district
Eugene 4J and the Eugene Water and Electric Board (EWEB) to develop integrated
curriculum based on the study of water and energy. Students raised salmon in
the classroom, learned about watersheds, ecology, climate, inhabitants and
the interactions within the system and energy generation and conservation.
Participating schools also conducted local water quality testing and posted
their results on the GLOBE web
site. A recent cut in funding from EWEB has forced us to eliminate this program.
Certain aspects of the the program will remain: raising salmon in the classroom
and salmon spawning trips. For this reason, this site will continue to be maintained.

For schools that are continuing to test water quality on their
own and wish to post their data on GLOBE, we have kept the following links
active.
