Unlike traditional electric cars, Chevy Volt has a revolutionary propulsion system that takes you beyond the power of the battery. It will use a lithium-ion battery with a gasoline-powered, range-extending engine that drives a generator to provide electric power when you drive beyond the 40-mile battery range.

EV startup Arcimoto has just unveiled their Pulse three-wheeled, tandem two-passenger electric car. It runs on lead-acid batteries charging on 110V in 6-8 hours and delivers a range of 50-100 miles.

Mitsubishi claims that in ideal conditions, the i MIEV gets 100 miles on a full charge, which compares with the 40 miles promised by the Chevrolet Volt.

The NissonLEAF handles and accelerates like a V6 car and has a top speed of up to 90mph. The battery will charge in 4-8 hours on a 220V home charging unit. At quick-charge stations, it will charge to 80% in about 26 minutes. The LEAF will have a range of 100 miles per charge under average, everyday driving conditions.

Driving in normal conditions (mixed city and highway conditions in a range of temperatures) results in “real world” range of 244 miles per charge. In fact, in early 2009 the Roadster set an EV record when it traveled the entire 241-mile course of a Monte Carlo rally – with 36 miles remaining on the charge!
